Interior Decorating Colors

Whether we realize it or not we are at all moments surrounded by different hues and varieties of colors, shades and light. Nothing in the laws of nature appear or happen by accident. In fact all room design colors have a meaning in our day to day life and sometimes even inadvertently influences our mood and frame of mind.

That is why on any given day one feels like wearing black while on other days you feel like spicing it up for yourself and you go in something bright, fluorescent or at times an elusive dark evening dress. But that part is relatively easy, the difficult part is when you have to select interior decorating colors or specifically home decorating colors.

It is so because once you finalize interior design paint colors, the interior paint colors remain for a while influencing you and your life in subtle ways. And you cannot change the interior decor colors overnight, so to speak.

So it is essential at this stage that we take an educated look at the 2009 interior design colors both in the aesthetic, symbolic sense, as well as the way both Interior designers as well as knowledgeable clients view them and the memories that linger.

Certain rules

Modern interior design colors take into cognizance certain established ground rules before setting out to finalize interior design paint colors. Red, yellow, orange are active colors; blue, green and purple are passive while white, black, gray, beige are neutral. And all the decorating colors have an invigorating, calming or softening influence on the ambience of the room in their own colorful ways. So a lot of thought goes into getting the mood and balance in the room just right as per your specific needs.

However it is a very big world we live in and different colors mean different things to people across the world .So it is very important to understand colors, as they mean, cutting across civilizations

The meaning of colors

While red remains a color of passion and love, like the red heart on a Valentines Day gift box or card. Red, it must be remembered is the most common color on National flags because of it’s association as well as a signal for battle in most countries.

In South Africa it signifies mourning. In fact in China it is used as a wedding color as it is associated with good luck .Red eggs at Easter symbolize the blood of Christ as well good luck. So if you like red it would not be a bad idea to have it as an interior design color with a Chinese theme.

Green is the color of nature, honor and victory. In fact, in Ireland it is supposed to bring luck. Choosing an Irish theme is certainly a good idea if you plan to use dark green as a decorating color.

When you think blue you nearly always tend to feel secure as you do when you see a policeman in his blue uniform. There is nothing as relaxing and soothing as the blue skies on a clear day, so it is no wonder blue is the interior design color of choice for most people. In fact it is safe to say that you cannot go wrong with blue, though balancing it with yellow or orange gives a certain enhancement to it’s essentially cold feel.

Purple is historically a royal color because it was difficult to procure. The color was extracted from Purpura snails. Children are supposed to develop imagination from purple and no wonder it is a favorite decorating color for children’s’ rooms. Purple is noted for it’s inspirational values too.

History informs us that Spanish executioners wore yellow. Yellow is a color for jealousy and deceit. Yellow and orange however are warm colors and are associated with the sun, the tropics as well as tropical fruits, they all are very positive symbolically. As decorating colors they dominate, hence care should be taken to tone them down and make a subtle play as with blue, as mentioned earlier.

But what must always be remembered is that colors cut across civilizations and borders, like the reality that almost every color is a mourning color for some country somewhere in the world: red is a mourning color for South Africans, blue for Iranians, purple for Thailand, yellow for Egyptians, white for Chinese and Japanese, black for Europeans and Americans.

However back and white are most symbolic in so far the way we generally view the world , so while black furniture gives your interior design paint color a classy look , white means purity , kindness and most other virtues Thus select your colors keeping these basic facts in mind.
